University, Open Source and Industry Involvement
Long time since an update, most likely due to the fact that I'm finding myself getting involved alot more of late with the Open Source community as well as the University and it's relationship with the local software industry in Newcastle.
The members of LOGIN[2] and myself were lucky enough to be able to invite Pia Waugh[1] to talk at the University last week on Open Source and the way it interacts with industry. Despite the last minute organisation I was impressed with the crowd we drew - at least 50-60 people. Hopefully we can help keep this momentum flowing into Software Freedom Day[3] next month.
On the industry front I attented an event run by the university auditors last week that was focused on what the local industry see's in the University's graduates. The night went well, and hopefully moving forward I'll be able to provide them some more detailed feedback (we have been hiring alot of graduates of late at work).
This week, I'm in Sydney for training and meetings for the majority of the week before trying to get a few projects over the line before running of to Cisco Networkers[4] mid next month.
